Some Ottawa residents, however, are surprised by the city government’s insistence on developing nightlife. Local gallery curator Jason St. Laurent is confident that art lovers will continue to invest in Montreal anyway. And music promoter Rachel Weldon wonders why such a task has fallen on the shoulders of just one person.
Rachel explains that with the current level of noise complaints and a ban on alcohol sales after 2 a.m., it’s not going to work. And, if the authorities’ plan works and 40,000 more people live and party in the city center, the flow of complaints will only increase.
